pooja IS an upcoming fourth YEAR Neuroscience MAJOR AND IS ONE OF OUR CHAPTER'S GHU COORDINATORS
"To be honest, the reason why I initially joined GlobeMed was because one of my friends was in it and I was so nervous coming into college my freshman year! I walked into the first meeting, and I just didn't bother to leave. I absolutely LOVE GlobeMed because it's given me the tools to succeed as a leader and quench my thirst for sustainable change. I look forward to GlobeMed meetings every Monday because I know I'll be engaging in amazing conversation with my peers while helping raise funds for our partner in Guatemala."
"One of my favorite memories of GlobeMed, maybe also my least favorite at the same time, is when I got up to do the ghU for the week and almost started bawling like I was 2 years old. This is one of my favorite memories because it made me realize that I was sincerely passionate, something that GlobeMed has given me and now no one can take from me, about what I was talking about. It was also horrifying because I almost cried in front of a large crowd..."

Therefore, Globemed's mission to improve the health of people in poverty around the world is extremely important to me."
His favorite quote is “Go forth and set the world on fire.” - St. Ignatius of Loyola

Whether it be the dedicated staff of our chapter at UT, the friends from other chapters I have met at network wide events that I can see (through Facebook posts) fighting for causes they care so deeply about, or the people of Guarjila and CAM who showed me what it means to be selflessly dedicated to the well-being of your community, GlobeMed has been a beautiful place to call home for four years."

The first thing that struck me about GlobeMed when I first joined was how the focus wasn't on us. The focus was entirely on our partner and the amazing relationship we have with each other. I love that our partnership is a commitment, and that we continue to work and communicate with them until sustainable health care is established."
Jeremiah's favorite part about GlobeMed's model is that "we don't 'help' our partner per se; we simply empower them to help themselves. And in turn, our partner helps us learn a lot as well!" His favorite

I also joined because of all of the passionate people already involved and the weekly opportunity to discuss social issues present in our world. These two hours of my week where I get to have thought provoking, challenging conversations about pertinent matters and actively make change even if in just a small way is what is impacting my college experience incredibly."
Caroline says there is no way she could choose one favorite moment from the collection of memories GlobeMed has given her.♥️

sri IS A third YEAR health and society MAJOR AND IS currently one of our chapter's GHu coordinators
His favorite memory of GlobeMed was the information session that he attended at the beginning of sophomore year.
"I was amazed by how passionate Ciara, our co-president, was about social justice, advocacy, and the organization, and how warm and welcoming the members were. I joined hoping to learn from such influential role models, and I can safely say I have grown tremendously in the past two years thanks to them. I've left every meeting inspired by the discussions we have had and the insight that our members have shared. We all come from diverse academic and social backgrounds, and our career paths are as different as we are. However hectic our schedules may be, we always set aside two hours every week to discuss issues that are at the core of global equity and work to transform the privileges we enjoy into unalienable rights for people around the world. GlobeMed has connected me with so many inspiring people and bright minds - I can't wait to form new relationships and see where we'll take the organization next year and beyond!"
Sri's favorite quote is "To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I joined GlobeMed because I wanted to learn more about how we, as students, can tackle such immense issues as global health inequity. Adrian loves all of Wes Anderson's films, but The Royal Tenenbaums is his favorite!
His favorite quote is "To search for power within myself means I must be willing to move through being afraid to whatever lies beyond. If I look at my most vulnerable places and acknowledge the pain I have felt, I can remove the source of that pain from my enemies' arsenals. My history cannot be used to feather my enemies' arrows then, and that lessens their power over me. Nothing I accept about myself can be used against me to diminish me. I am who I am, doing what I came to do, acting upon you like a drug or a chisel to remind you of your me-ness, as I discover you in myself." - Audre Lorde

One of William's fondest memories is pole vaulting through middle and high school. "It was extremely fun and exhilarating, and is where I met some of my closest friends. I feel like not too many people know about or have tried it, but I'd recommend to anybody to give it a shot. It's so much fun!"
